The Departments of Electronics & Communication Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering jointly hosted an insightful Expert Talk on "Cyber Security & New Initiatives taken by BSNL" presented by Mr. Mahendra Singh Dhakar, Principal General Manager Business Area BSNL Bhopal, under the Banner of IETE Student’s Forum & CSI Student Chapter. The session aimed to shed light on the current cyber security landscape and BSNL’s initiatives to counter cyber threats.

Mr. Dhakar provided a thorough overview of various cyber threats, including cybercrime, cyberattacks, and cyberterrorism. He discussed different types of malware, such as spyware, ransomware, adware, and botnets, and explained specific cyber-attack methods like SQL injection, phishing, man-in-the-middle attacks, and denial-of-service attacks. The talk also addressed significant issues, including digital arrest, SIM swapping, and SIM cloning.

Shri Dhakar outlined BSNL’s proactive measures to combat these threats, which include investments in advanced security infrastructure, such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption technologies, as well as citizen services like Chakshu, CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register), and TAF-COP (Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection).
Mr. Dhakar’s presentation offered valuable insights into the intricate world of cyber security, highlighting both the challenges and the strategic initiatives BSNL is undertaking. The session emphasized the critical importance of awareness and proactive strategies to protect digital assets in our interconnected environment.
