B.Pharma @ SIPTec

Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharma or B.Pharm) is a four-year undergraduate academic program in the field of pharmacy. The study of pharmacy is mainly concerned with the action of drugs on biological systems and their applications for human drug therapy. The program prepares graduates for the contemporary role of the pharmacist in society ensuring that patients optimize medication usage. Pharmacists are becoming an integral part of the healthcare sector contributing to research and development on new drugs and medicines as well as the supply of the said medications in the market.

A degree of B.Pharm is essential to get registered as a pharmacist. Initial courses on chemical, physical, and biological studies lead to professional specialties in later years. Practical and clinical science studies begin in the first year, providing students with a strong background in professional practice. The program integrates six streams of study: quality use of medication; dosage form design; social and professional aspects of pharmacy; drug discovery; the biological fate of drugs; and data analysis in pharmacy.

SIPTec, one of the best pharmacy colleges in Bhopal functions on the guidelines of the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) with academic affiliation to Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV), the state university. The B.Pharm degree enables the students to understand various aspects and makes them ready to take on various roles in the pharmaceutical industry. Possessing the foundational and advanced knowledge of medicines and biology, the graduates can perform tasks such as prescribing appropriate medicine to patients (pharmacist), clinical research, work at pharmaceutical companies, etc. Upon completion of the B.Pharm course, it opens door to many possible opportunities such as Pharmacist, Drug Inspector/Coordinator, Pharmacologist, Analytical Chemist, Product/Process Development Scientist, Business Development Executive. In addition to this, the graduate can further go for higher studies such as Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharma), or dive into the research sector and work on the development of new drugs.

The course comprises the study of subjects like Pharmacognosy (study of the drugs derived from plants or other natural sources), Pharmaceutics (study of the methods of formulation of various dosage forms like tablets, capsules, syrups, etc.), Pharmacology (study of the effects of drugs on the body) and Medicinal Chemistry (study of the chemical structure and derivatives of drugs). Along with these core subjects, some allied subjects like Microbiology, Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, etc. are also studied during the course.

The purpose of the design and conduct of the B.Pharm course is to grant complete knowledge to the student about the entire process right from the ideation stage to the marketing stage (to develop a drug its required dosage and how to make it available to the patients). The completion of a B.Pharm degree from a PCI u/s 12 approved institute also makes the students eligible to get them registered under the respective State Pharmacy Council, which issues a registration certificate to the scholar.
